Ok first I am not even going to really go into the issue of what some people are trying to put on the ballot in California, if you want to find out follow this link: http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/nov/30/campaign-starts-california-ban-divorce/news-breaking/ however what I do want to talk about is the underling issues behind this and other marriage and law issues, such as same sex marriage.
I believe full heartily that it is constitutionally illegal for the united states to endorse ANY form of "marriage" because it is a violation of church and state. I believe that marriage is an established religious union and claim. In all technicalities many christian groups supposedly are not allowed to recognize anyone as married if they where not married within their church (such as catholics, a catholic could not divorce and then remarry in the catholic church, the said divorced catholic can get remarried but it would be a ceremony not within Catholicism and would not be recognized by the church and would basically result in the person not being able to be catholic anymore). Despite that marriage is something that is common in many different religions, to put laws on marriage, such as banning same sex, polygamy, and other such ideas, is a establishment of church within the state, because these things are acceptable in some religions, however are not acceptable is the majority of christian religions. So god damn it, everyone should legally be considered as a civil union....a joining of assets and property...and get "married" within their church and religion. This would allow churches to reserve the right to marry people according to their own belief systems and recognize their own practitioners as being married, and they can say be damned everyone else (because in their eyes no one else is really married right?). I will have a civil union agreement with my boyfriend, or whoever I end up wanting to spend the rest of my life with, and then will be hand fasted, so he will be my husband.
That is my rant, not sure if anyone can follow, anyways.

I couldn't agree with your sentiments more.
This is exactly how I feel. Marriage should be the term for religious sponsored unions, and all unions recognized by the state: civil unions. It such a perfect solution, why is it not being spread more?
